Explanation

あまり shows that an emotion or degree is so strong that it causes the following result.

Usage

The result is often an involuntary reaction or an undesirable outcome.

Example

緊張のあまり、面接で名前を言い間違えた。

I was so nervous that I said my name incorrectly in the interview.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with あまり~ない; this pattern does not require a negative ending.
