Explanation

かねない means that a bad result could happen given the current situation; it has a warning tone.

Usage

It is generally used for negative outcomes, not hoped-for good events.

Example

このまま放置すれば、大きな事故につながりかねない。

If left as it is, it could lead to a serious accident.

Common Mistake

Do not use it for positive outcomes; use かもしれない for neutral or positive possibilities.
