JLPT N2 Grammar

からには

N2Cause / Reason

N2 · Cause / Reason · plain form + からには

Meaning

now that; since

Structure

plain form + からには

Explanation

からには means that since a fact or decision is already true, the following responsibility or result should follow.

Usage

The following clause often expresses duty, determination, judgment, or a natural result.

Example

引き受けたからには、最後まで責任を持ってやります。

Now that I have accepted it, I will take responsibility until the end.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with ordinary から; it carries “now that this is true, one should...”

Memory Tip

The first part is a fact; the second part is the responsibility.
