Meaning

as soon as; right after

Structure

verb辞書形 + か + nai-form verb + ないかのうちに

Explanation

か~ないかのうちに means another action happens just as the first is about to finish or has just finished.

Usage

The second action is usually a naturally occurring event, not a command or volitional statement.

Example

席に座るか座らないかのうちに、電話が鳴った。

Just as I was about to sit down, the phone rang.

Common Mistake

Do not use unrelated verbs; the same verb is usually repeated in affirmative and negative forms.
