JLPT N5 Grammar

N5Other

N5 · Other · 句子 + か

Meaning

question marker; asking or confirming

Structure

句子 + か

Explanation

か at the end of a sentence turns a statement into a question. In polite Japanese, a question mark is often unnecessary.

Usage

Rising intonation makes it a direct question; flatter intonation can sound like confirmation.

Example

明日、学校へ行きますか。

Are you going to school tomorrow?

Common Mistake

Do not say 行きますですか. Add か directly after the polite verb form.

Memory Tip

When you see sentence-final か, read the sentence as a question first.
