Explanation

Presents an extreme example to emphasize that even the first item holds or does not hold.

Usage

More written than さえ, and often paired with negatives for emphasis.

Example

専門家ですら判断に迷う問題を、初心者が一人で解くのは難しい。

A problem that even experts hesitate over is difficult for a beginner to solve alone.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with additive も; it highlights an extreme example.
