Structure

nai-form verb去ない + ずじまい(する → せずじまい)

Explanation

Shows that something one wanted or should have done ended up not happening.

Usage

Often carries regret, missed opportunity, or incompletion.

Example

旅行中に有名な店へ行くつもりだったが、時間がなくて行かずじまいだった。

I planned to visit the famous shop during the trip, but ended up not going because there was no time.

Common Mistake

する becomes せずじまい; do not write しずじまい.
