Connects two or more alternatives in a question and asks the listener to choose one.

Mostly used in questions. In statements, または or あるいは is often used for 'or.'

予約は電話でしますか。それとも、ウェブサイトから申し込みますか。

Will you make the reservation by phone, or will you apply through the website?

Do not use it casually as a general connector in affirmative statements.

Put two choices in a question and ask the other person to choose.
