JLPT N1 Grammar

たら~ところだ

N1假设

N1 · 假设 · ta-form verb + ら + 句子 + ところだ

Meaning

if...would have; would be

Structure

ta-form verb + ら + 句子 + ところだ

Explanation

Shows that if the first condition had held, the following result would have occurred, often for near misses.

Usage

Often used with expressions like もう少し and 一歩間違えたら.

Example

もう少し連絡が遅れたら、予約を取り消されるところだった。

If we had contacted them a little later, the reservation would have been canceled.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with an ordinary conditional; it often looks back with 'fortunately it did not happen.'

Memory Tip

It almost stepped into another result.
