JLPT N5 Grammar

た形

N5Other

N5 · Other · ta-form verb

Meaning

past, completion, or experience-related form

Structure

ta-form verb

Explanation

The た form is the plain past form of a verb and a base for many grammar patterns.

Usage

Group 1 verbs have several た-form changes, so learn them together with the て form.

Example

昨日、友だちと映画を見た。

I watched a movie with a friend yesterday.

Common Mistake

The polite past is 見ました; the plain past is 見た. Avoid mixing styles randomly.

Memory Tip

The た form usually follows the same sound-change groups as the て form.
