Shows that a state continues after an action, often with a negative nuance of leaving something unattended.

Common in phrases such as 開けっぱなし, つけっぱなし, and 置きっぱなし.

エアコンをつけっぱなしで出かけてしまった。

I went out and accidentally left the air conditioner on.

Do not use it for normal positive continuation; it often implies leaving something unattended.

Do something and leave it as is: that is っぱなし.
