〜ておく

ておく means doing something in advance for later, or leaving something in a state for now.

In speech it can contract to とく.

会議の前に資料をコピーしておきます。

I will copy the materials before the meeting.

The point is preparation for later, not simply past completion.

Memorize “〜ておく” as one fixed chunk, then practice by replacing words in the example sentence. Learn the connection first, then the nuance.
