Structure

te-form verb + からでないと

Explanation

Shows that unless the first action is completed, the following action cannot proceed or the result will not hold.

Usage

The following clause often contains potential forms, negatives, or expressions of difficulty.

Example

内容を確認してからでないと、契約書にサインできません。

I cannot sign the contract unless I check the contents first.

Common Mistake

Do not omit でないと; てから alone only means 'after.'

Memory Tip

The second action cannot begin until the first gate is passed.
