extremely; cannot help feeling

Structure

te-form verb / i-adjectiveくて / na-adjectiveで + ならない

Explanation

Shows that a feeling or sensation naturally arises strongly and cannot be suppressed.

Usage

Common with mental states such as worry, regret, longing, and curiosity.

Example

卒業した友人たちのことが思い出されてならない。

I cannot help remembering my friends who graduated.

Common Mistake

Do not use it for ordinary actions under the speaker's control; it emphasizes a naturally arising feeling.

Memory Tip

The feeling comes up by itself and cannot be held down.
