Shows two actions, or actions of the same kind, occurring repeatedly or alternately.

Often describes repeated processes such as trying, failing, resting, and continuing.

彼はメモを見ては消し、また見ては書き直していた。

He kept looking at his notes, deleting, then looking again and rewriting.

Do not use it for actions that happen only once; it emphasizes repetition.

The actions repeat like a pendulum.
