Meaning

to the extent of; even doing

Structure

te-form verb + まで

Explanation

Shows going to the extreme extent of doing the first action for a purpose, often with surprise, criticism, or strong will.

Usage

Often used when judging whether an action is worth it.

Example

徹夜してまで、そのゲームをクリアしたいとは思わない。

I do not think it is worth staying up all night just to clear that game.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with ordinary range まで; this emphasizes an extreme extent.

Memory Tip

For the goal, one even goes this far.
