Meaning

it cannot be helped even if; no use doing

Structure

te-form verb / i-adjectiveくて / na-adjectiveで + もしょうがない / もしかたがない

Explanation

Shows that even if the first thing happens or is done, it cannot change the result or solve the problem.

Usage

Often used to accept reality or advise someone not to keep dwelling on something.

Example

過ぎたことを後悔してもしょうがない。次に気をつけよう。

There is no use regretting what has passed. Let's be careful next time.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with てしょうがない; with も, it often means 'even if, it is no use.'
