te-form verb + 以来

Explanation

Shows that a state has continued from the first event up to the present.

Usage

The following clause is often a continuing state, habit, or change.

Example

日本に来て以来、毎日少しずつ漢字を勉強している。

Ever since coming to Japan, I have studied kanji little by little every day.

Common Mistake

Do not use it when the following event happens only once with no continuing effect.

Memory Tip

The first event is the starting point, and the second continues.
