JLPT N1 Grammar

て済むことではない

N1不足

N1 · 不足 · te-form verb + 済むことではない

Meaning

cannot be settled by; it is not enough to

Structure

te-form verb + 済むことではない

Explanation

Shows that the first action alone is not enough to solve the problem or take responsibility.

Usage

Often used in serious situations involving apology, compensation, explanation, or incident handling.

Example

個人情報を漏らしたのだから、謝って済むことではない。

Since personal information was leaked, this cannot be settled by simply apologizing.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with ordinary て済む; this rejects the idea that doing this is enough.

Memory Tip

The issue is too serious to be covered by one simple action.
