JLPT N5 Grammar

N5Parallel

N5 · Parallel · te-form verb + て

Meaning

connecting actions or giving a reason

Structure

te-form verb + て

Explanation

The て form connects two actions in sequence and can also lightly show reason or manner.

Usage

When connecting actions, the subject is often the same. The final verb decides the tense of the sentence.

Example

朝ご飯を食べて、学校へ行きました。

I ate breakfast and went to school.

Common Mistake

Do not make both verbs past when using this pattern; 食べました、行きました is not a て-form connection.

Memory Tip

The て form works like a connector linking actions.
