Explanation

Introduces an association from a word, or checks what the other person means.

Usage

Common in conversation for asking follow-up questions, confirming, or continuing naturally.

Example

来週のイベントと言うと、駅前で行われる音楽祭のことですか。

When you say next week's event, do you mean the music festival held in front of the station?

Common Mistake

It is close to と言えば, but と言うと more often checks what the other person means.

Hear the other person's words and first confirm what they mean.
