Shows that while an action or state is at a certain stage, the following event occurs.

The following event is often a visit, contact, notice, or sudden occurrence.

資料を印刷しているところに、部長から修正の連絡が入った。

Just as I was printing the materials, a correction notice came from the manager.

Do not confuse it with locational ところに; here it marks timing.

The action reaches this point, and another event cuts in.
