Explanation

ところ attaches to different verb forms to show the stage an action is in.

Usage

Dictionary form means about to do; ている means in the middle of doing; た form means just did.

Example

今、出かけるところです。

I am just about to go out now.

Common Mistake

Do not read every ところ as a place; here it marks an action stage.
