The particle と can mean 'with/and,' mark quoted content, or mark certain conditional relations.

At the beginner level, first learn the 'with someone' use, as in 友だちと.

友だちと映画を見ました。

I watched a movie with a friend.

For an incomplete list, use や rather than と.

Learn AとB first as 'A and B.'
