Explanation

なくてもいい means it is okay not to do something; it is not necessary.

Usage

It is often used to remove an obligation or say something can be omitted.

Example

名前を書かなくてもいいです。

You do not have to write your name.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with てはいけない. なくてもいい is not prohibition.
