〜なければいけない

なければいけない expresses that something must be done.

In speech it often contracts to なきゃいけない.

明日までに家賃を払わなければいけません。

I have to pay the rent by tomorrow.

This is obligation formed by a double negative, not 'do not do.'

If not doing it is not okay, it must be done.
