Explanation

なければならない expresses obligation: something must be done.

Usage

In speech it is often shortened to なきゃ or ないと.

Example

明日までに宿題を出さなければなりません。

I must submit the homework by tomorrow.

Common Mistake

Use the ない-form base before なければ, not the て-form.

Memory Tip

It is a double negative: 'if you do not do it, it will not do' means 'must do.'
