JLPT N1 Grammar

にかかっては / にかかったら / にかかると / かかれば

N1Condition

N1 · Condition · noun + にかかっては / にかかったら / にかかると / にかかれば

Meaning

when it is handled by; when it comes to

Structure

noun + にかかっては / にかかったら / にかかると / にかかれば

Explanation

Shows that once something is handled, judged, or taken on by a certain person, a result fitting their ability, character, or influence will occur.

Usage

Often evaluates someone's skill or influence, either positively or negatively.

Example

経験豊富な田中さんにかかれば、複雑な交渉も一時間でまとまる。

If it is left to experienced Tanaka, even a complicated negotiation can be settled in an hour.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with にかかっている meaning 'depends on'; here the focus is what happens when it is in someone's hands.

Memory Tip

Once the matter enters this person's hands, their ability shows.
