JLPT N3 Grammar

にかけて

N3Range

N3 · Range · noun + から + noun + にかけて

Meaning

from...through; over; around

Structure

noun + から + noun + にかけて

Explanation

Indicates an approximate range in time or space. The boundaries are less precise than から...まで.

Usage

Common for weather, regions, and time spans.

Example

駅前から川沿いにかけて、桜の木が続いている。

Cherry trees continue from in front of the station through the riverside area.

Common Mistake

If the range has exact boundaries, から...まで is more natural.

Memory Tip

Imagine a range line stretching from the start toward the end.
