Compares two things and describes the difference or degree in the following clause.

Often learned with comparison patterns like より and ほうが, but に比べて emphasizes the comparison standard.

去年に比べて、今年は観光客がかなり増えた。

Compared with last year, the number of tourists has increased considerably this year.

The following clause should state the comparison result, not just name the compared object.
