nai-form verb去ない + ぬ / する → せぬ

Explanation

A written or old-fashioned negative form equivalent to ない.

Usage

Common in fixed expressions, written language, titles, and sayings, such as 知らぬ and 思わぬ.

Example

思わぬところで、昔の先生に再会した。

I unexpectedly met my former teacher again in an unexpected place.

Common Mistake

Do not casually replace ない with it in ordinary speech; it sounds old-fashioned or written.
