Structure

plain form + のに

Explanation

のに connects to a result contrary to expectation, often with surprise, dissatisfaction, or regret.

Usage

Use なのに after nouns and na-adjectives.

Example

たくさん勉強したのに、試験に落ちました。

Even though I studied a lot, I failed the exam.

Common Mistake

Commands and requests are not natural after のに.

Memory Tip

のに often carries a 'even though...' feeling.
