dictionary-form verb/ない形 + の

の can nominalize a verb/adjective phrase and can also explain or emphasize background information.

As a nominalizer, it can often alternate with こと, but の is more conversational and tied to the immediate situation.

走るのは体にいいです。

Running is good for your body.

With nouns in explanatory sentences, use なの; do not omit な.

Verb + の lets the action function as 'the act of doing.'
