Shows that the first item is out of the question, and even the lower or more basic following item is not true.

Often pairs with negatives to create strong escalation.

彼は漢字はおろか、ひらがなさえまだ十分に読めない。

He cannot read hiragana well yet, let alone kanji.

Do not reverse the difficulty order; the following item is usually the lower bar that still cannot be reached.

Forget the higher bar; even the lower bar is not met.
