if only; would have, but

verbば形 + のに / i-adjectiveければ + のに

ば～のに means that if a condition had been true, the result would have been better, often with regret or blame.

It is often used for something that did not happen in the past, or a present regret.

もっと早く相談してくれればよかったのに。

If only you had consulted me earlier.

Do not use it like an ordinary conditional; のに carries regret.

The condition was not met, so regret remains.
