verb辞书形 + べきだ / する → するべきだ・すべきだ

Explanation

べきだ says what should be done based on common sense, responsibility, or principle. It is stronger than たほうがいい.

Usage

In formal contexts, すべきだ is common. The negative form is べきではない.

Example

約束したことは最後まで守るべきだ。

You should keep what you have promised until the end.

Common Mistake

Use it carefully toward others because it can sound forceful or preachy.
