verb辞書形 + べくして

Explanation

べくして means something happened not by chance but as an inevitable result of conditions or tendencies.

Usage

It often appears in evaluative expressions such as 起こるべくして起こった.

Example

準備不足が続いていたため、失敗は起こるべくして起こった。

Because preparation had been insufficient, the failure happened as it was bound to.

Common Mistake

Do not use it for ordinary cause; it emphasizes inevitability.

Memory Tip

When all conditions point to one result, use べくして.
