JLPT N1 Grammar

ほどのことではない

N1Degree

N1 · Degree · verb辞書形 + ほどのことではない

Meaning

not worth; no need to

Structure

verb辞書形 + ほどのことではない

Explanation

ほどのことではない means the matter is not serious enough to require the preceding action.

Usage

It is used to reassure, downplay seriousness, or avoid overreaction.

Example

少し遅れただけですから、謝罪文を書くほどのことではありません。

It was only a slight delay, so it is not worth writing an apology letter.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with ほどではない; this pattern says that action is unnecessary.

Memory Tip

The degree is not high enough, so no need to do it.
