noun + ほど + 否定形 / plain form + ほど + 否定形

ほど～ない means something does not reach the degree of the preceding comparison target.

It is commonly used to compare the degree of two things.

今年の夏は去年ほど暑くありません。

This summer is not as hot as last summer.

Do not forget the negative ending; without it, the comparison meaning changes.

AほどBない means B does not reach A’s degree.
