masu-stem verb + ました

Explanation

ました is the polite past affirmative verb form. Use it for actions that happened or were completed.

Usage

It often appears with past time words such as 昨日 and 先週.

Example

昨日、図書館で本を読みました。

I read a book at the library yesterday.

Common Mistake

Do not use ました for future plans that have not happened yet.

Memory Tip

To make ます past tense, change the ending to ました.
