masu-stem verb + ませんでした

ませんでした politely states that an action did not happen in the past.

It commonly appears with past time expressions such as 昨日, 先週, or その時.

昨日は日本語を勉強しませんでした。

I did not study Japanese yesterday.

Do not say ませんた. The full past negative form is ませんでした.

Think of ません plus past でした: ませんでした.
