Structure

verb辞书形 + ものではない

Explanation

Used to advise against doing something from the viewpoint of common sense, morals, or social norms. It has an admonishing tone.

Usage

Mostly used for general rules or norms, not simply for personal likes or dislikes.

Example

人の努力を笑うものではない。

One should not laugh at someone else's effort.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with ものがない; もの here is not a concrete object.

Think of it as: 'That is not the kind of thing one should do.'
