Structure

plain form + ようだ

Explanation

ようだ gives a relatively objective guess from evidence, and can also mean 'like/as if.'

Usage

Use のようだ after nouns and なようだ after na-adjectives.

Example

外は寒いようです。

It seems cold outside.

Common Mistake

Do not omit の after nouns: say 子どものようだ.

Memory Tip

よう carries the idea of 'appearance/manner.'
