plain form + ようだ

Explanation

ようだ makes a fairly objective judgment based on what the speaker sees, hears, or knows.

Usage

Use のようだ after nouns and なようだ after na-adjectives.

Example

部屋の電気が消えています。もう寝たようです。

The room light is off. It seems they have already gone to bed.

Common Mistake

Do not attach ようだ directly after a noun; add の.

Memory Tip

よう captures the appearance inferred from evidence.
