よほど / よっぽど + adjective・verbcondition

Explanation

Shows a high degree, or emphasizes that something happens only under quite special circumstances.

Usage

よっぽど is more conversational; often used with inference, conditions, or reasoning.

Example

彼がそこまで怒るなんて、よほど失礼なことを言われたのだろう。

For him to be that angry, he must have been told something very rude.

Common Mistake

Do not treat it as ordinary とても; it often carries inference or special-condition nuance.

The degree is high enough to explain an unusual result.
