AよりBのほうが + adjective

より〜ほうが sets A as the baseline and emphasizes that B has more of the following quality.

Do not mark the same item with both より and ほうが.

バスより電車のほうが速いです。

The train is faster than the bus.

Reversing the comparison direction reverses the meaning.

Memorize “より〜ほうが” as one fixed chunk, then practice by replacing words in the example sentence. Learn the connection first, then the nuance.
