In formal style, marks a time, place, source, sender, or starting point.

Common in notices, emails, and announcements; から is more common in everyday speech.

本日十時より、システムのメンテナンスを行います。

System maintenance will be carried out from 10 a.m. today.

Do not confuse it with comparative より; here it does not mean 'than.'

In formal settings, から puts on a suit and becomes より.
