Structure

Explanation

Shows taking advantage of a favorable condition, someone's weakness, or lack of restraint to do something negative.

Usage

Almost always critical; the following action is often irresponsible, excessive, or selfish.

Example

上司が出張中なのをいいことに、彼は何度も会議を欠席した。

Taking advantage of the boss being on a business trip, he skipped meetings several times.

Common Mistake

Do not use it for positive use of an opportunity; it usually criticizes exploiting a loophole.
