Explanation

Shows acting without backing down despite difficulty, danger, opposition, or harsh conditions. It often carries a positive evaluation.

Usage

Common with nouns such as 困難, 悪天候, けが, 批判, and 危険.

Example

強風をものともせず、選手たちは最後まで走り続けた。

Undeterred by the strong wind, the athletes kept running to the end.

Common Mistake

Do not confuse it with をよそに. をものともせず more positively describes overcoming difficulty.

Memory Tip

It means treating the obstacle as if it were nothing.
