Shows that one action also has the purpose or function of the first item.

Often used for arrangements that serve two purposes, such as rest plus inspection or greeting plus reporting.

市場調査を兼ねて、週末に新しい商業施設を見に行った。

Over the weekend, I visited the new commercial facility partly as market research.

Do not confuse it with 兼ねる meaning 'also hold a role'; here one action also serves another purpose.

One action carries two tasks.
